Book of the Month: A Love Rekindled

Myne Whitman is the most hardworking Nigerian romance novelist. She is also the most active online. Her second romance novel A Love Rekindled is our Book of the Month. You will enjoy it.

Ten years ago, Efe Sagay dreams of winning the United States Visa Lottery, until she meets Kevwe Mukoro in University. Kevwe is happy to remain in Nigeria; only he wants Efe by his side. Over time, Efe finds true love with Kevwe, and promises to marry him. Their dreams unravel when Efe wins an American Visa, and fresh violence erupts between their warring ethnic groups. Now, Efe is back in Nigeria, and she knows it’s a matter of time before Kevwe returns to her life. They finally meet again, but renewed desire is no match for bitter memories of heartbreak. Efe wants the traumatic events of the past resolved before she gives in to rekindled love.

A Love Rekindled is the second romance novel of Myne Whitman, a Nigerian author based in the US.

Myne Whitman is my pen name. I was born and raised in Enugu, Nigeria, where I spent most of my time, studying, reading and daydreaming or climbing trees and playing with the boys. I have a Master's degree in Public Health Research but have chosen my childhood dream of spinning stories. After a few years in Edinburgh, Scotland, I now live with my husband in Seattle, USA. I write and blog full-time, and also volunteer as an ESL tutor for a local charity. I critique with the Seattle Eastside Writers Meet-up and I'm also a member of the Pacific Northwest Writers Association.

The Pacific Northwest of America is a great place but during the drizzling winter rains, I dream of long, hot, Nigerian days and the red palm oil of Banga Soup. A self-confessed adrenaline junkie, I love theme park rides and my wildest ride yet would be the Simpsons at Universal studios, Hollywood. Or maybe it was that reverse bungee jump I did in Scotland, hmm...lol.

In addition to writing popular fiction to get people reading, I am passionate about using the internet and social media to promote the book industry and literacy levels in Nigeria. To this end, I facilitated a session, "Social Media and the Book Publishing Industry", for the Publisher's Forum at the 2010 Garden City Literary Festival, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I also founded and work as the publisher and managing editor of NaijaStories.com, a critique website for aspiring Nigerian writers.

Love & Money: Making Sure Your Valentine is a Good Financial Match

123 Backgrounds

Love & Money: Making Sure Your Valentine is a Good Financial Match

As Valentine's Day approaches, couples rush to find the right ways to say "I love you." What they might not realize is it takes financial compatibility to sustain a healthy, long-term romantic relationship. In fact, money is the number one cause of relationship trouble in the United States.(1) Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Consumer Advocate Eleanor Blayney, CFP® has some timely advice on how to strengthen a relationship and stop trouble before it starts – at least when it comes to money.

"Finances may not be the most romantic thing to discuss, but ignoring them can create big problems later in the relationship," Blayney said. "Partners today are more financially separate, having their own incomes, assets and debts. Full financial disclosure is imperative, considering that many individuals carry a heavy bag of financial behaviors and obligations into their relationships."

Here are some ideas that can make mixing love and money less of a tricky proposition:

* Explain What Money Means: Childhood perceptions of what money meant and how it was managed in families can shape the way adults deal with their finances. Sharing those early money perceptions with a partner can clarify what's important – and what's not – and avoid misunderstandings later in a relationship.

* Sync Money Goals with Life Goals: Sitting down and talking about each individual's vision of the future can help bridge the gap between partners' financial realities and life goals. If one wants a mansion in the nicest part of town while the other wants to send the kids to private school, priorities may need to be re-aligned to meet these different objectives. Each goal may require different planning and sacrifice that both partners buy into. It's important to take the time to align these goals early.

* Define "My" Money and "Our" Money: As counterintuitive as it may seem, it's important to discuss the need for some financial separateness in a relationship. Together, a couple should decide what assets will remain his or hers alone – without having to account to the other person – and what assets will be combined. Letting a spender have some "mad money" and a saver have a separate nest egg can prevent later acts of "financial infidelity" where partners start keeping accounts secret from one another.

* Plan for the Unexpected: Partners should create a financial contingency plan that lays out how each will work together should financial crises like a job loss or medical emergency arise. The best time to plan for the rough spots is while the road is still smooth.

My dear Nigerian girls and ladies

Beautiful Nigerian maiden by Grace Bernard

My dear Nigerian girls and ladies

Lest we forget, not all girls are ladies.
That said, let me PLEASE, and appeal to you one more time,
It is good to love and have fun, but PLEASE, DO SO WITHOUT LOSING YOUR DIGNITY, INTEGRITY AND NOBILITY AND NOT BEHAVING LIKE DOGS.
God made every woman to be the virtuous woman, but majority of them have rewired themselves to become promiscuous and unscrupulous women who do not care about the dignity, integrity and nobility of womanhood.
Our beautiful daughters, sisters, aunts and mothers deserve RESPECT and we should TREAT them with dignity as not seen and used as sex objects.
You should be controlled by your brains and not by money and sex.
You should be ruled by your intellect and not by your animal instinct.
You humans created in the beautiful and wonderful image of God and not animals.
So, do comport yourselves as God made you beautiful, powerful and wonderful helpmate for men.
Be a blessing to your family and society and not a curse.
Make us proud and not disgraced.
You must reject everyone who sees you as a sex object.
YOU ARE NOT A SEX OBJECT, BUT AN OBJECT OF BEAUTY, DIGNITY, INTEGRITY AND NOBILITY AND A GREAT BLESSING TO HUMANITY.

Sing and share this all time classic song by
Juliana Aquino

I’m So Glad That I’m A Woman lyrics

In the morning when I wake up
As I comb my hair
I can hear my daddy saying
It’s a big big world out there
While putting on my make-up
His words linger in the air
Just use the love I gave you
And you can make it anywhere

I’m so glad that I’m a woman
I know I wouldn’t trade
I know I got it made
We’re the life line of mankind
And now is the time for me

Life is such a challenge
Live it day by day
You never know what’s gonna happen
A what might come your way
Just stop and think about it
There is nothing we can do
They can’t live without us and
We can’t live without them too

There Are No Ugly Women

There are no ugly women-only women who don’t care or who don’t believe that they are attractive.
~ Estée Lauder (July 1, 1906 – April 24, 2004)

There are indeed no ugly women in romance.

I have heard and read many posts on Nairaland and other discussion forums where people callled some girls and women ugly and I found them amusing, but I disagree with the common references to those many call ugly.

As an artist and writer who has even being close to both black and white women and have discovered very attractive models, I am well informed to agree with Estée Lauder that no woman is really ugly, except she does not know how to make herself beautiful or attractive. And in romance, a man in love will always see her woman as beautiful.

Profitable And Unprofitable Relationships

Profitable and Unprofitable Romance

As I was editing this article, I read that Michael Jackson has started battle between Facebook, MySpace, Bebo users, but what you should consider is the success story of Bebo, the social networking website that began from the romantic relationship of Michael Birch when he met the American brunette Xochi at a college bar in London and their loving relationship produced the idea for Bebo in January 2005 and was bought by AOL on March 13, 2008 for $850m (£417m)! This is an illustration of the whole point of this topic on profitable and unprofitable relationships.

We have profitable and unprofitable relationships in life.
Some are caused by unforseen circumstances and others are entirely our choices.
The most important priority is to beware of unprofitable relationships and to end any unprofitable relationship.

Whatever you spend your time or money on is an investment.
How you spend it can make you successful or unsuccessful in life.
Your relationship is an investment.
Whether it is important to you or not does not change the fact that it is an investment.
Whether you like it or not, it is an investment.
It is either a good investment or a bad investment of your time and resources.

You need to sit down for once and evaluate or re-evaluate your relationship with the opposite sex.
Is it worth the time and money you are spending on it?
What are the "pros" and "cons" of your love affairs?
Is she worth it?
Is he worth it?

What are you gaining from dating him or dating her?
Sex apart, what is the benefit?

A very well known Christian minister died in a plane crash in Nigeria whilst visiting his other "wife" that was not known to his legitimate wife. His infidelity cost him his precious life and made his innocent children fatherless and miserable.

How many men have been wasting their time and money on extra-marital affairs?
In fact, many childish and foolish husbands have wasted their monthly salaries on pampering their girlfriends or mistresses.

Most girlfriends going out with boyfriends for the financial benefits can claim that they are having profitable relationships.
But are the boyfriends having profitable relationships?

In Nigeria, unprofitable relationships are responsible for the poverty plaguing the majority of Nigerians and making Nigeria one of the poorest countries in the world in spite of the enormous human and mineral resources.

Millions of Nigerian men waste their quality time and financial resources on unprofitable relationships with girfriends who are not contributing anything at all to their succcess.
A well paid Nigerian man often spends more money monthly on his girlfriend than his wife and children.
An unfaithful Nigerian wife spends more quality time and money on her boyfriend than the time and money she spends at home.
A sugar mummy buys a brand new jeep for her younger lover while one of her children needs medical treatment overseas.
A Nigerian husband buys a brand new car for his girlfriend, but his wife has to take public transport buses, taxi cabs and motorbikes to take their children to school and go to the market to buy foodstuffs for the family. She is risking her life daily for the love of her family, but her husband is wasting his life sleeping with a girlfriend whose high-risk behaviour in the city makes her a possible HIV/AIDS carrier.
The list of such unprofitable relationships is endless.
The relationships are useless.
If they confess what they go through in the course of chasing and dating another woman or another man, you would be shocked.
In fact, many of them have died in horrible and terrible ways.

Let me not prolong this issue, because every wise man and wise woman perfectly understands what is profitable and what is not profitable. Therefore, the choice is yours. I am only addressing this issue, because many of us are ignorant of the great damages such unprofitable relationships have done to individuals, families, communities and even to the rest of the country.

Public officials are misappropriating public funds to pamper and "spoil" their unprofitable girlfriends or mistresses who do not pay tax! Who do not even contribute anything to Nigeria than the fact that they are expendable liabilities.
They have been found guilty of breaking up marriages and leaving children in dire straits in broken homes.
They have given birth to millions of illegitimate children Nigeria did not ask or plan for and creating chaos in dysfunctional familities, committing thousands of abortions of unwanted pregnancies as they are perpetrating and perpetuating rampant corruption and wide spread poverty and also spreading contagious diseases all over Nigeria.
The sooner we get rid of these cankerworms, the better and safer we would all be.
If we do not destroy these evils, these same evils will destroy us eventually.
That is why those engaged in these unprofitable relationships in Nigeria must stop now before it too late.

The men should sit them and sum up the time and money they have spent so far on girlfriends who are not adding any value to your life.

Have you heard of a value-added life?
Any romance that does not add to your life anything of benefit to your family, is unprofitable and not worth it.
End it now.

Mama needs more attention and welfare at home, and you are here spending your precious time and money on shagging your so called girlfriend we all know would not even touch you with a ten feet pole if you could not afford her price.
Hello bro, wake up!
Can she discuss the routines of your daily log in the office?
Can you really sit down and ask for her advice on that memo you received?
Can she do more for you than going shopping, partying and shagging?
Is she your housekeeper and commercial sex worker or a true helpmate/partner?

You have spent N100, 000, N500, 000 or N1, 000, 000 on chasing and dating girlfriends while you have not contributed anything tangible to your poor village where only N500, 000 can give them a borehole for regular water supply or pay the school fees of poor boys or girls in your church or community.

America was not built on unprofitable relationships!
Go and read the history on how America went through The Great Depression and became a super power.
They spent more time and money on profitable relationships.

We are aping the America of today, but we forget that most Americans have paid their dues to their nation, but most Nigerians have not paid their dues to Nigeria. They are busy destroying Nigeria by their unprofitable ways of life, doing us more harm than good.

Is your relationship doing you more harm than good?
Then it is an unprofitable relationship.
End it and you will have a better and safer life.

How many times have you sat down with your sweetheart to plan for the future?
How to manage your salary?
How to manage your shares and other financial interests?
How to manage your health insurance and life insurance?
How to move on to the next level on the ladder of progress and success?

Has she asked you about any of the above?
Besides the cliché of "How now?", "How was today?" or "I hope you are fine?"
Any dummy can ask similar questions.
Has she asked anything more than that on your progress report at work compared to how many demands she has made for her selfish gratification?
She eats into your budget until your budget is no longer worth it.
She gives you stress until you lose focus and may even have premature hypertension at 35!
Hello bro, wake up!

My sweethearts and aunties need to ask themselves similar questions.
Does he care about your welfare and the welfare of your family?
I know boyfiends who do not even know where their girlfriends live!
They simply pick her up and drop her off after having their so called "Good Time".
I was guilty of this many years ago.

Forget all the lovey-dovey mannerisms, because in most cases they are mere impressionism or a game of wits to see who would outsmart the other eventually.
The lovey-dovey ends the day he has had enough and once to move on to the next target or the day she has had her fill of you and she wants to hook a richer target at first sight.

How much a man cares about you depends not on the time or money he spends on you, but on how much interest he has in your health, education, career, family, security and future.
He must want the best for you and he must prove his love for you by doing his best for you.
If he is not committed to the above top priorities, he does no love you.
End the unprofitable relationship before you are trapped.

"Only the best is good enough for us."
~ Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther

Miss. Bullshit and other Tissues of Lies

A woman without scruples
Will do anything to succeed.

She will lie, slander, blackmail, sleep around and do other horrible and terrible things to continue her dubious and vacuous life of conceit and deceit.

She has to tell another lie to cover up the previous lie and before you know it, she has become an epitome of falsehood.

She lies to a man that she does not have a relationship.
She lies that she is not having sex.
She lies that she does not have any man in her life for her financial needs.

The fact is, she has an inferiority complex and she has to lie in her posing and posturing with false airs and graces.

If she is not afraid of her true state, she would not lie to anyone.

She has to lie to lure him into giving her what she wants or to lure him into a relationship.

I am often baffled by the way people live just to impress their so-called peers.

Their lives have little or nothing to offer humankind, besides what they have gained from their sex merchandise.

She is always asking for one financial favour or another.
So if she does not get it from John, she will move on to Tom and if Tom cannot give her what she wants, she will turn to Bayo and if Bayo is not willing to give her, she will try Tolu. To her, romance is like a game of Bullshit. She will play all her cards.
She has to lie to John that she does not have a boyfriend, to win his sympathy and curry his favour, because she believes that if she admits that she has a boyfriend, John will no longer be willing to give her what she is asking for in cash or kind.

Her demands or insecurities lead her into dating and mating different men in her vicious circle of promiscuity.

Many relationships and marriages are the products of lies.
That is why infidelity is rampant, because most of the couples lied to lure their partners into relationship and marriage.

Most unscruplous girls and women end up the most promiscuous.

They are shameless, so they are careless and reckless until their lies are exposed in broad daylight.

The most desperate liars will tell more lies to cover their previous lies.

I find it shocking how Bullshitting is so common in the Nigerian society.

The following musical video by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland is for Miss. Promiscuous.

For the Queen of My Heart

My Sweetest,
I have never fallen in love before until I met you
I thought the passion would soon be over,
But I can still feel the heat of the fever
I have never felt like this before
And I am craving for more
Because, I don't want to stop loving you.

You are my Princess and my Queen
The loveliest I have ever seen
The one and only Queen of my heart.

I promise you on this 14th Day of February, 2008
Before heaven and earth
That I will always love you
As long as you believe in our love
Our love will last forever.

7 Places to Take Your Man for Valentine’s

Perfectly good men can be kind of bad when it comes to romance. Maybe it’s your year to take charge—and keep the destination a surprise.

By Rebecca Schoenkopf for MSN City Guides

There are few disappointments for a woman in love like an underwhelming Valentine’s Day. Perhaps I’m unpacking just my own baggage here, but in my wide experience, if a man is properly romantic, it’s because he’s had a lot of practice—sometimes a lot of practice at the same time he’s romancing you. Good men—keepers, not Lotharios—aren’t often well-versed in the rose-petal-scattering arts.

And so the only truly fulfilling Valentine’s Days I’ve ever had have been with the greatest of cads. That is not what I’m recommending here.

Instead of settling for same-old—once again, a prix-fixe dinner at a restaurant that hands out Champagne and a rose, while you’re too heavy and bloated to feel amorous after—why not take your big, dumb, emotionally inarticulate hunk of a man and treat him to the romance, and show him how it’s done? Take the pressure off his well-meaning but kinda lame shoulders—lovingly. Say to that man, “Baby, just you let me worry about it this year.” Make sure to do this without a sneer or a long-suffering sigh; say it with a twinkle (and follow it up with the kind of kiss that can get you pregnant). He will be grateful. And you will be showing him how to reap the rewards of a very self-interested selflessness.

Here are seven places to take your man (buy a blindfold if you need to):

Scent of a (Wo)Man
Unless your man is more than usually metro, chances are he hasn’t experienced the bliss a good esthetician can deliver all while extracting his blackheads. Make your appointment as far as possible in advance for late afternoon on Valentine’s Day, tell the esthetician you’ll be delivering a newbie to her, and drop him off without explanation. (It helps if you’ve told him to clear his schedule.) When you pick him back up an hour and 15 later, his rumpled hair will be matched only by his inner glow (and the glow of 17 layers of moisturizer). If you’re taking him to dinner after, you’ll want to bring him a hairbrush. He won’t have felt this relaxed in years, and you’re the one who made it happen. Love is in the aromatherapy-scented air.

Hygiene and Romance With Campus Babes and others Who Share Compound Toilets

Hygiene and Romance With Campus Babes and others Who Share Compound Toilets

When you see these campus girls and younger women living in the hostels on campus in Nigerian colleges or universities, you would be fooled by their dazzling looks and chic fashion and before you know it, you would have been hooked at first sight. But please, before you rush her into bed, think twice.

When you visited her on campus, did you see the toilet?
Did you know how many of them are sharing the toilet?
Were you able to breathe well while passing by the toilet?

Most girls and women have the habit of hiding their infections and medical history from their boyfriends and suitors until they have lured and seduced them into relationships.
How evil and wicked they could be?

Now, visit the toilets in the male hostels?
These same boys and young men are often the regular lovers of the same girls and young women on campus.
Please, inspect their toilets, because the toilets in the female hostels are not cleaner than the toilets in the male hostels.

The same campus guys who can sleep with anything in skirts and pants in their careless and reckless lust for sex will be seen posing and posturing to be cool while contracting and infecting their campus girlfriends with STDs and even AIDS.

Many campus guys sleep with prostitutes in town and return to also sleep with their campus girlfriends and then campus girlfriends will sleep with their senior boyfriends, big boys, Aristos or Sugar Daddies and these careless and reckless men will now go and sleep with their senior babes, mistresses or wives and the vicious circle of sexual epidemic continues.

Then finally, inspect the toilets of the girls and young women living in tenements in the town or city before rushing to dip your careless and reckless Long John into the vagina.

Yes, Mr. Romantic, before you kiss her hand or foot, think twice or even thrice, about the hygiene.

Does she wash her hands and feet after urinating?
Does she use her hands to wipe sweat off her face and clean her nose?
The same hands you rush to kiss in your careless and reckless lust for sex.

What does she do with those her hands behind your back when you are not looking?

Hygiene is necessary before dating anyone.

The cleanliness and sanitation of the residence, must be confirmed before you rush into bed

Being dirty and filthy shows the true character of your personality.

Lagos is dirty, because Lagosians are dirty.
Kano is very dirty, because the residents are very dirty.
Aba is dirty, because the residents are quite dirty and filthy.

The Nigerian writer, Dilibe Onyemma said that he would politely reject fellow Nigerians from renting his apartments in the UK, because of their well-known dirty and filthy habits.

The UN is so concerned that there is a global campaign for the promotion of sanitation in schools worldwide to prevent the spread of common infections through sharing toilets.

It is natural for most people to hide the truth and continue using dirty and filthy toilets.

Students on campus can join hands and put their heads together to start the general sanitation of their bedrooms and toilets.

I know a student in Moremi Hall at the University of Lagos who mobilized her roommates and they made sure their toilet was clean and safe for daily use.

There is a finishing school on Isaac John Street in Ikeja, Lagos, for the grooming of young girls and young women on hygiene and etiquette.

Autumn Blues in The Romance of Life

Well.Well.Well.

How many of you missed my regular posts of Kisses & Roses?

I have been sharing my love with hundreds of thousands of people who have been visiting my popular Nigerian Times International Forum and Nigerian Times International and other websites. I have some more plugins and the largest Nigerian media network online will be ready for launch before Christmas.

My passionate article, "An Open Letter To Nigerian Girls And Ladies" is still making some of the affected and concerned Nigerian girls and ladies very uncomfortable. But I have moved on to focus on more universal issues.

My "Memories of a Refugee Child" published and distributed by Amazon Shorts is still making the rounds as one of the latest memoirs on refugees and other victims of bloody conflicts.

The Christams season is here and the early bird savings for your Christmas shoppings should be well spent and I have recommended that we should include good books in our Christmas hampers and gift packs. And Amazon has recommended "100 Hot Books" you should not miss.

I am still the one who was born to love.
But love begets love.
And those who do not have love cannot receive love.
Jesus Christ said, we should not throw our precious jewels to the dogs or swine.
