Red Roses for the Reds As Manchester United Wins the European Champions League Cup!

It was an ecstatic Wednesday night for thousands of the fans of Manchester United at the Luzhniki Stadium by the Moscow River in Russia and for millions of other fans watching in different parts of the world. The Reds won their third European Champions League Cup by defeating Chelsea 6-5 in a penalty shootout following a grueling 1-1 draw after the extra time in this first all-English final in Champions League history.

I only sat down to watch the match after Didier Drogba was given the red card for slapping Nemanja Vidic.

I saw Roman Abramovich hanging his head in despair. The Jewish orphan who rose through the rank and file to become one of the richest people in the world was heartbroken to lose in a final that Chelsea had all the chance to make history. Abramovich would have been the happiest man on earth Wednesday night if his soccer team had won the most coveted cup in European football in his native Russia. His Chelsea merchandise would have sold out.

The 2008 UEFA Champions League was the first final played in Russia and the first final played on two surfaces of the Luzhniki Stadium.

QUOTE OF THE DAY:
“We had a cause which was very important.
People with causes are difficult to battle against and I think fate was playing its part today. I feel very very proud.”
~ Sir Alex Ferguson
