Jesse, a Jack Russell Terrier, from Litchfield Park, Arizona; Jasmine, a Havanese from Gilbert, Arizona; and Mater, a mixed breed from Carmel, Indiana bested the competition by showcasing their star potential and attitudes that are bigger than their size. They will star in a dogumentary about the founding of Mighty Dog Nation, a first-of-its-kind nation that celebrates mighty dogs - the "everydog" whose spirited personality speaks louder than his bark.
Maria Menounos, TV personality, dog lover and Human Ambassador to the Mighty Dog Nation, picked the winners from 10 finalists with the help of dog lovers across the country who also voted online for their favorites.
"It was hard to pick just three winners because every dog is mighty in his or her own unique way," said Menounos. "Jesse, Jasmine and Mater truly have star potential and spirited personalities that will shine on screen."
Meet the Mighty Dogs
In their video "auditions," Jesse used ingenuity and creativity to defend his turf from an intruder; Jasmine performed remarkable mighty feats; and Mater had a doggone good time at the playground. Each of the winning mighty dogs will receive a featured role in "Mighty Dog Nation: The Movie" that will air on the Mighty Dog Web site in 2010, as well as a film premiere party in their hometown and a one-year supply of Purina Mighty Dog brand canned dog food. They also will appear in a 30-second film trailer that will air during a commercial break on the "National Dog Show" on NBC on Thanksgiving Day 2009.

New Dove® Body Washes with NutriumMoisture™ Restore Skin's Natural Moisture
New Dove® Body Washes with NutriumMoisture™ Restore Skin's Natural Moisture
Breakthrough Moisturizing Technology Cares for Surface Skin Ten Layers Deep
ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., July 27, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — Until now, all regular body washes caused dry skin damage. Now, Dove has discovered how to restore skin's natural moisture while cleansing with body wash. Current body washes actually damage proteins and lipids in the skin's outer layer, often leading to the loss of critical moisture. Recognizing skin lipids require different care than skin proteins, Dove developed its latest liquid cleansing technology called NutriumMoisture. Research published in the June 2009 issue of Cosmetic Dermatology confirms NutriumMoisture is clinically proven to preserve both skin's natural proteins and lipids while significantly reducing dryness and improving moisturization.
Dry skin damage caused by cleansing manifests itself as dry, itchy, flaky and tight skin. Some existing body washes address this damage by adding moisturizing ingredients, called occlusives, that sit on top of skin. While these additives help mask dry skin damage, they do not address the deeper problem of lipid damage caused during the cleansing process. Now with the introduction of NutriumMoisture, moisture loss caused by cleansing no longer has to be a skin care concern.
NutriumMoisture: A Breakthrough in the Body Wash Category
NutriumMoisture fuses the mild cleansing benefits of DEFI (Directly Esterified Fatty Isethionate) technology found in the iconic Dove Beauty Bar with a new, unique moisturizing complex that cares for surface skin ten layers deep. Unlike other body washes, this first-of-its-kind body wash technology takes a dual approach to healthy skin by preserving both proteins and lipids during cleansing which is critical for optimal skin health. The formulation is comprised of sodium lauroyl isethionate, a mild cleanser that reduces protein damage, and 100% skin-compatible natural moisturizers, including stearic acid, soybean oil and glycerin, that fully absorb into skin to replenish lipids lost during cleansing.
Dove has been at the forefront of research and breakthrough cleansing technology since the brand's inception. This dates back to the launch of the Dove Beauty Bar in 1957 which revolutionized the way women cared for their skin by providing the first alternative to soap that was less drying to skin. Now, Dove is once again bringing category-changing technology to the personal wash category.
"For over fifty years, Dove has led innovations in the skin care industry and the introduction of NutriumMoisture™ technology continues that tradition," said K.P. Ananth, Unilever principal research scientist. "We are thrilled our extensive research and testing has allowed us to be the first brand to minimize lipid damage with a liquid cleanser in order to provide intensive moisturizing benefits that strengthen and smooth skin."
NutriumMoisture: Most Effective Natural Nourishment
Dove NutriumMoisture contains the highest level of natural moisturizers in a body wash, making it the most effective natural nourishment ever. While moisturizers in other body washes sit on top of skin, new NutriumMoisture penetrates surface skin deep down to replenish skin where it is needed most. By absorbing into the skin, the moisturizing complex is able to deliver hydration for skin barrier components and processes to help skin maintain a healthy and resilient state.
"This technology represents an important change in the body cleansing paradigm. Until now, body wash products have only masked dry skin damage rather than effectively addressed it," said Dr. David Leffell, M.D.; professor of dermatology and surgery at Yale University's School of Medicine. "By targeting skin directly where damage occurs (within the surface layer), NutriumMoisture technology helps build a foundation for the stratum corneum to become stronger and the skin smoother."
NutriumMoisture: Clinically Proven to Deliver Results
The new Dove Body Wash collection with NutriumMoisture is clinically proven to deliver noticeable results. Results from a four-week clinical study show:
Significantly reduced dryness and improved moisturization in just three weeks. Both expert visual grading analysis and objective computer image analysis of high-resolution digital images of the subjects before and after three weeks of treatment, confirmed the effects were significant and noticeable.
Dryness reversed in one week (after switching from regular body wash)
Softer, smoother skin all over
More even skin tone
The new NutriumMoisture technology will be offered in Deep Moisture, Sensitive Skin and Gentle Exfoliating variants. The body washes will be available in August 2009 at food, drug, mass and club retailers. For more information visit dove.com

American Cancer Society, The Culinary Institute of America and "Ace of Cakes" Chef Duff Join Forces to Reinvent the Birthday Cake
American Cancer Society, The Culinary Institute of America and "Ace of Cakes" Chef Duff Join Forces to Reinvent the Birthday Cake
Emerging Chef Alexandra Mudry's New Take on Red Velvet is the Official Birthday Cake of the American Cancer Society
ATLANTA - July 23, 2009 - /PRNewswire/ — The American Cancer Society, the Official Sponsor of Birthdays, joined forces with The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), the world's premier culinary college, to reinvent the birthday cake. Because healthy living is key to creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays, the Society and the CIA challenged CIA's baking and pastry students to create a better-for-you birthday cake. CIA Alumni and star of Food Network's TV's "Ace of Cakes" Chef Duff Goldman joined the Society and the CIA to select the winner, Alexandra Mudry's new take on red velvet cake, from a pool of five talented finalists. The winner is now the official birthday cake of the American Cancer Society.
"Birthday cakes help people celebrate important milestones in meaningful ways. We see a significant opportunity to use the American Cancer Society's new official birthday cake to inspire people to stay well and lead healthier lives through simple lifestyle changes," said Elizabeth T.H. Fontham, M.P.H, Dr.P.H., national volunteer president, American Cancer Society. "Who better to help create a healthier birthday cake without sacrificing fun and flavor than The Culinary Institute of America and Chef Duff?"
The Society's official birthday cake is a healthier version of a red velvet cake that delivers plenty of taste but much less sugar and fat than a traditional recipe. In addition to cutting back on sugar, eggs, oil and butter, Mudry's inventive additions - including roasted beets, dried cherries, applesauce and whole grain flour - help kick the nutrients up a notch. The result: a better-for-you cake that tastes great and still has the fun, celebratory feel of a traditional birthday cake.
To help promote healthier birthday celebrations throughout the country, students from The Culinary Institute of America were challenged to create an easy-to-replicate cake recipe that incorporates ingredients that reduce some of the not-so-healthy ingredients typically found in cakes. Students submitted recipes that included an original cake recipe and a description of how the recipe used more healthful baking ingredients and/or substitutions to improve on the traditional birthday cake. The CIA deans evaluated the recipes and selected five finalists. The other finalists included:
Arthur Battistini, runner up, Hyde Park Campus
Tamara King, Hyde Park Campus
Lorraine Tran, Greystone Campus
Laura Sansone, Hyde Park Campus
"Our students are encouraged to include ingredients with high nutritional value in their recipes," said Thomas Vaccaro, associate dean for baking & pastry arts at The Culinary Institute of America. "When we were presented with an opportunity to work with the American Cancer Society to reinvent the birthday cake we were thrilled because the collaboration truly showcases our emerging chefs' commitment to producing more healthful recipes. We're also pleased to be part of the Society's efforts to raise awareness of healthy living to fight cancer as the disease has touched so many of our students in very personal ways."
Chef Duff selected the Official Birthday Cake of the American Cancer Society at his studio bakery, Charm City Cakes, where he tapes his popular Food Network show, "Ace of Cakes." The finalist judging will be featured in an upcoming "Ace of Cakes" episode.
"The idea of having an official birthday cake and celebrating more birthdays is a very positive way of looking at cancer and dealing with cancer," said Chef Duff. "If people are baking better-for-you cakes at home, then they are taking a step in the right direction to live longer, healthier lives and celebrate more birthdays. Baking isn't as scary as you think and the winning recipe is a prime example of just how easily more nutritious baking can be done at home."
To download the recipe for the official birthday cake of the American Cancer Society and more information on the finalists, visit www.morebirthdays.com. Eating a healthy diet high in fruits, vegetables and whole grains and limited in processed and red meats is one important component of staying well to reduce your risk of cancer. In addition, it is important to get at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity on five or more days a week; to get the cancer screenings that are appropriate based on your age and family history; and to avoid cigarette smoking.
The American Cancer Society invites people to join the movement to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays by visiting morebirthdays.com where they can declare the American Cancer Society the official sponsor of their birthday, download a healthy "how to" birthday kit and send e-cards to friends and family. People can also spread the word on Facebook or by visiting OfficialBirthdayBlog.com.
About the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well by preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass laws to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing about $3.4 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it will be celebrating birthdays this year. St. John's Hospital Acquires Latest Technology in Robotic-Assisted Surgery
St. John's Hospital Acquires Latest Technology in Robotic-Assisted Surgery
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois, recently became the only hospital in the Midwest to acquire a dual console da Vinci surgical robot, and one of three hospitals in the United States to purchase the new system.
The da Vinci is the latest robotic-assisted surgery system that gives surgeons an enhanced three-dimensional view of the operative field and greater flexibility to maneuver instruments during a minimally invasive procedure.
With the acquisition in late June of the dual console da Vinci, St. John's aims to be the Midwest leader in training for robotic surgery. The acquisition of the new dual-console da Vinci SI Surgical System will allow greater collaboration for surgeons and enhance teaching opportunities at St. John's Hospital. "With this technology, St. John's will attract the best and the brightest for training," said Bradley Schwartz, MD, the director for laparoscopy and endourology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.
Patients benefit from robotic surgery as well. Less pain, smaller scars, and a quicker recovery time are all benefits from the da Vinci. "Patients can get back to life faster," said Dave Schwabacher, RN, Robotics Coordinator at St. John's.
The new da Vinci SI was launched nationally in April and provides surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that allow for a minimally invasive approach to many complex surgical procedures.
The da Vinci robot allows a surgeon to operate through a console adjacent to the operating table. Unlike normal laparoscopic surgery, the surgeon has a full-range of motion and the same direct eye-hand instrument alignment found in open surgery. "The advantage to robotic surgery is that surgeons can operate in a very small incision as if our hands are right there," said Dr. Schwartz.
St. John's has been a leader in robotic surgery since 2004 with seven surgeons who have undergone specialized training currently using the da Vinci at St. John's. They are supported by 18 specially trained clinicians from the hospital's surgical staff. More than 300 patients have undergone a robotic surgical procedure at St. John's.

True Love is Unbreakable
True Love is Unbreakable
If you have never been in love, you cannot relate with me on this extraordinary experience of the romance of human existence. True love can only be experienced and not imagined.
Yes, temptations will surely come and you will face the trials with the tribulations, but true love will help you to overcome the temptations, trials and weaknesses of life as long as you believe in it and you never let go.
Our faith is our strength in the journey of life on earth.
True love will see you through all the circumstances of life.
You have heard and read of the love that is stronger than death.
Yes, this is true.
You know you cannot stop loving your loved ones even after they have passed on.
The loving memories of them will linger in her our hearts.
I still love my beloved mother even though she passed away 16 years ago.
True love is totally different from the marriage or romance of convenience that is so common these days and interesting times when most people prefer to bargain for their selfish gain in a relationship.
A woman is not better than a profiteer as she goes out with a man for the profits and fringe benefits of the status symbols and trophies of the rat race.
A man with low esteem also believes that he cannot hook that so called Upper Class chick except he is rich or has the fancy posh cars and palatial mansions. But the truth is, the woman you can entice and seduce with such vanities does not love you and while she is enjoying the luxuries with you, her heart is far away from you.
And in most cases, these women have gone out to have flings with the men they love.
You wonder why the trophy wife of the billionaire is sleeping with the struggling guy downtown.
You millions of naira, posh cars and mansion can make you win that trophy girlfriend or wife, but you will always feel insecure, because you know that without these luxuries she would have turned you down?
If she cannot love you when you are broke and flat, then she cannot still love you when your ship comes in.
It is when the chips are down that you will you those who truly love you and those who are simply dogs.
Only time will tell if someone truly loves you or not.
Through the fire of the crucible, true love becomes invincible.

New Obesity Data Shows Blacks Have the Highest Rates of Obesity
Embargoed for Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 12 p.m. ET
Blacks had 51 percent higher prevalence of obesity, and Hispanics had 21 percent higher obesity prevalence compared with whites, according to researchers with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Greater prevalences of obesity for blacks and whites were found in the South and Midwest than in the West and Northeast. Hispanics in the Northeast had lower obesity prevalence than Hispanics in the Midwest, South or West. The study, in CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, examined data from 2006-2008.
"This study highlights that in the United States, blacks and Hispanics are disproportionately affected by obesity,'' said Dr. William H. Dietz, Director of CDC's Division of Nutrition, Physical Activity, and Obesity, "If we have any hope of stemming the rise in obesity, we must intensify our efforts to create an environment for healthy living in these communities."
The study uses data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS), of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. BRFSS is an ongoing, state-based, random-digit-dialed telephone survey of the U.S. civilian, noninstitutionalized population aged 18 years and older.
The study found that in 40 states, obesity prevalence among blacks was 30 percent or more. In five of those states, Alabama, Maine, Mississippi, Ohio, and Oregon, obesity prevalence among blacks was 40 percent or greater.
For blacks, the prevalence of obesity ranged from 23 percent to 45.1 percent among all states and the District of Columbia; among Hispanics in 50 states and DC, the prevalence of obesity ranged from 21 percent to 36.7 percent, with 11 states having an obesity prevalence of 30 percent or higher. Among whites in 50 states and the District of Columbia, the prevalence of obesity ranged from 9 percent to 30.2 percent, with only West Virginia having a prevalence of 30 percent or more.
"We know that racial and ethnic differences in obesity prevalence are likely due to both individual behaviors, as well as differences in the physical and social environment,'' said Liping Pan, M.D., M.P.H., lead author and epidemiologist. "We need a combination of policy and environmental changes that can create opportunities for healthier living."
For this study analysis, CDC analyzed the 2006 2008 BRFSS data. For more information on obesity trends, tables, including an animated map, visit http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/trends.html. Video: What Are Those Little Red Bumps?
AmLactin® launches www.littleredbumps.com, a website devoted to managing dry skin associated with Keratosis Pilaris (KP)
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn - July 9, 2009 /PRNewswire/ — "Keratosis Pilaris," "Keratosis Pilaris." Hmm, sounds weird, doesn't it? Besides sounding weird, it's a common skin condition that according to the American Academy of Dermatology nags 40 percent of the world's population1, yet there is no cure. The AmLactin® family of moisturizers is launching www.littleredbumps.com, a website devoted to the management of the dry skin associated with Keratosis Pilaris also known as KP.
"The goal of littleredbumps.com is to educate people through an innovative creative approach about managing the dry skin associated with KP," said Mark Evenstad, president of Upsher-Smith Laboratories, Inc., the marketers of the AmLactin® family of moisturizers. "The website features Laurie Rose also known as Miss Little Red Bumps, and is designed to entertain people who are searching for information about KP."
As the virtual host of www.littleredbumps.com, Laurie Rose speaks to visitors with enticing, exciting and minimally icky information about KP in three vignettes. Visitors visit "Laurie's world" and experience her quirky, positive insights about the challenges of being a young person in today's millennium. Visitors are also regaled with "toe tapping" original songs designed purely for entertainment, which along with the vignettes, can be downloaded for free.
"KP is not fun because it often raises its ugly head in a person's teens and twenties so this contemporary site will be informative and entertaining because of its upbeat messages and free music and video downloads," said Dr. Alan Fleischer, professor and chair of the department of dermatology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. "I see lots of patients who are suffering from extremely dry skin associated with KP so the management tips I provide on the site will also be of practical value."
The site also offers visitors valuable coupons for the AmLactin® family of moisturizers, including AmLactin®, AmLactin XL® and AmLactin® Foot Cream Therapy. For more information, visit www.littleredbumps.com.
About Keratosis Pilaris and littleredbumps.com
There is no cure for Keratosis Pilaris (KP) and the cause remains unknown, however it tends to run in families. People with KP may experience flesh-colored or red bumps around hair follicles on the upper arms, thighs, buttocks, and cheeks, extremely dry skin and, in some cases, itching.1 It is important to be aware that other medical conditions can mimic KP, so people with these symptoms should visit a doctor or dermatologist to confirm a diagnosis.
Littleredbumps.com and The AmLactin® family of moisturizers are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. Some skin conditions may be worsened by moisturizers, so people should always follow their doctor's skin care recommendations.
AmLactin®
The AmLactin® family of moisturizers are the number one dermatologist and podiatrist recommended brand of moisturizers2,3 and are readily available without a prescription at fine retailers nationwide and online. For more information, visit www.amlactin.com.

1,000 Immigrants Celebrate U.S. Citizenship in Star-Spangled Event Friday Morning on Main Street, U.S.A. at Walt Disney World Resort
New citizens attend premiere of 're-Imagineered' Hall of Presidents attraction, now featuring President Barack Obama figure
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (July 3, 2009) /PRNewswire/ — In a stirring celebration of citizenship, more than 1,000 immigrants gathered on Main Street, U.S.A. early Friday to be "sworn in" as American citizens.
And then, as the country kicked off Independence Day weekend, these brand-new Americans attended a premiere performance of the newest Walt Disney World attraction, a "re-Imagineered" Hall of Presidents now featuring a lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure of President Barack Obama.
From more than 100 countries and ranging in age from 18 to 82, the immigrants took the Oath of Allegiance to the United States during a morning ceremony jointly hosted by Disney Parks and Resorts and United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
USCIS's highest-ranking official, Acting Deputy Director Michael Aytes, presided over the ceremony on the forecourt of Cinderella Castle. The event featured a welcoming address by Walt Disney World Resort President Meg Crofton, the presentation of the colors, the national anthem, the Oath of Allegiance and the Pledge of Allegiance.
Actor Andy Garcia – a naturalized citizen himself – delivered a keynote address during the ceremony. Garcia, originally from Cuba, is an acclaimed actor known for roles in films as diverse as "The Untouchables," "The Godfather: Part III" and "Ocean's Eleven." The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Tampa-based Senior Airman Brenda Langdon of the U.S. Air Force, an immigrant from Columbia who became a United States citizen during the ceremony.
"This year, Disney parks are asking our visitors 'What Will You Celebrate?'," said Walt Disney World Resort President Meg Crofton in her welcoming address. "And on a weekend when our entire nation celebrates its independence, we are honored to host – and celebrate – 1,000 individuals who are embracing American citizenship."
To cap a star-spangled morning, the new citizens and their family members previewed the Hall of Presidents attraction – which reopens July 4 in the Liberty Square area of Magic Kingdom. The attraction has been closed since Election Day last November for a makeover that included installation of a lifelike Audio-Animatronics figure based on President Obama.
The figure of the country's 44th chief executive – which comes to life with recognizable mannerisms and makes comments that were recorded recently at the White House – is part of an eight-month makeover so significant that the iconic attraction has been retitled The Hall of Presidents: A Celebration of Liberty's Leaders. Other updates to the re-Imagineered attraction which has been entertaining Magic Kingdom guests since 1971:
A re-programmed Abraham Lincoln delivers arguably the greatest speech in the history of the presidency – the Gettysburg Address.
For the first time in the attraction's history, George Washington stands and delivers a stirring speech.
Developed with the assistance of Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, the show now tells a moving story of the bond between the presidents and "We, the People," focusing on the chief executives who have guided America through trying, turbulent times.
"Our goal with every major Disney attraction is to completely immerse our guests in a compelling story," said Jay Rasulo, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. "The stories associated with the American presidency are some of the most engaging and relevant our guests will hear while they are with us. And, like all great stories, these stories inspire, motivate and teach us to appreciate the challenges and personal triumph that comes with overcoming adversity."
Presentations of the Hall of Presidents show will take place daily beginning July 4 and are included with Magic Kingdom admission. For video of President Obama in the White House Map Room recording his audio track for the Hall of Presidents attraction, consumers may visit http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/.
