The '2008 MTV Movie Awards' Golden Popcorn Goes To... Autobots, a Pregnant Teen, a Drunk Pirate and a Bloody Barber Shine As Some of the Night's Big Winners

Johnny Depp Nabs Two Awards and Best Movie of the Year Goes to 'Transformers'

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., June 1 /PRNewswire/ --

Kicking off the "2008 MTV Movie Awards" with an over-the-top dance battle, host Mike Myers set the tone for a fun-filled extravaganza with first time winners, unforgettable acceptance speeches and cutting edge short films. For the first time in over a decade, the rock star wannabes from Wayne's World reunited for a pop culture moment that garnered a standing ovation in the house. Bringing a little "sex" to the show, stars from this weekend's #1 movie sensation, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Hudson presented Will Smith with "Best Male Performance." Adding to the memorable moments, Coldplay and The Pussycat Dolls gave heart stopping and eye-popping performances. The who's who of young Hollywood and established superstars united to celebrate our audience's favorite movies at the seventeenth annual ceremony.

The night's top honors went to Transformers for powering its way to "Best Movie." Johnny Depp led the way receiving two popcorn statues for "Best Comedic Performance" in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End and "Best Villain" in Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. "Best Male Performance" went to Will Smith for his role in I Am Legend while "Best Female Performance" went to Ellen Page in Juno. Zac Efron took home "Breakthrough Performance" in Hairspray. Fans celebrated Sean Faris and Cam Gigandet who won "Best Fight" for their battle in Never Back Down and "Best Kiss" went to Briana Evigan and Robert Hoffman for Step Up 2 The Streets. Beating out five other summer blockbusters, Iron Man won the award for "Best Summer Movie So Far."

Starting the show off with a bang, Chris Brown challenged the fearless host to a spectacular dance-off. Fans soon learned it doesn't matter how cool your outfit is, you can't beat Mike's superior tap dancing and belly dancing skills! The audience "partied on" with Wayne and Garth when surprise guest Dana Carvey appeared for a subversive Wayne's World tribute.
Coldplay captivated the audience with their first-ever televised performance of their new single "Viva La Vida," doing double-duty as their own string quartet and turning the stage into a red, white and blue confetti tornado. With levitating chairs, The Pussycat Dolls gave a mesmerizing performance of "When I Grow Up." "America's Best Dance Crew" winners, the JabbaWockeeZ, descended from the ceiling to join the girls on stage, bringing down the house.

From one superstar to another, Tom Cruise presented Adam Sandler with the "MTV Generation Award" for his vibrant career which has captured and entertained MTV audiences for years. Sandler loudly proved why he is the best by accepting the award with a comedic musical performance of "Nobody Does It Better" joined by Kevin James, Rob Schneider, dancers in gold bikinis and a full band, reaffirming boring acceptance speeches are so last "generation."

With creative control in the hands of the stars, this year's film spoofs were brought to a whole new level. Mike Myers introduced two new characters including "Tristain" a craft service woman to the stars and "Bucky," an in-the-way animal trainer on the set of Jon Favreau's movie starring Elijah Wood. And in the age of movie marketing via cell phones and the internet, Tropic Thunder co-stars Ben Stiller, Robert Downey Jr. and Jack Black collaborated to create a funny yet shocking viral short.

The "2008 MTV Movie Awards" welcomed the biggest names in movies and music throughout the night as the list of superstar presenters included Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Ben Stiller, Sarah Jessica Parker, Will Ferrell, Diddy, Lindsay Lohan, Steve Carell, Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr., Charlize Theron, Liv Tyler, Seth Rogen, Megan Fox, Edward Norton, Jennifer Hudson, Jason Bateman, Dwayne Johnson, Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Rainn Wilson, Brendan Fraser, Rumer Willis, Anna Faris, Emma Stone, Katharine McPhee, Verne Troyer and Danny McBride.
