The Top Baby Names of 2010 Revealed

LONDON, December 31, 2010/PRNewswire/ -- Katie and Amy have fallen out of the list of the top 20 female christian names, it emerged yesterday (30th January 2010).

The monikers of troubled stars Katie Price and Amy Winehouse have been replaced by prettier and less infamous names, Maisie and Isabella.

The highest climber in the list of the most popular girls' names in the UK today is Bella, due in no small part to the lead character in Twilight, played by actress Kristen Stewart. Lacey, as in EastEnders actress Lacey Turner, is also on the up, soaring from number 57 up to 37. Florence is also becoming increasingly popular, moving up 33 places, as is Maisy.

Olivia is still top after 3 years and Sophie is still second. Lily is now third, up from 8th place, with Emily and Ruby completing the top five.

In the boys list Jack has finally been bumped off top spot by Oliver after 16 years in first place. Jack is now second while Harry, Charlie and Alfie, all non-movers, make up the top five.

Another bad year for F1 ace Lewis Hamilton has seen the popularity of his first name drop from 13th to 19th place, whilst his singer girlfriend Nicole Scherzinger fares even worse, with the name Nicole dropping seven places down the girls list to 84th place.

Ollie emerged as the biggest climber - up 56 places to number 53 - while Zachary, perhaps inspired by High School Musical's Zac Efron or even the son of jungle queen Stacey Soloman, has also become more common.

Bobby - the name of the late Jade Goody's son - is another big climber, up 25 places to number 70. And Kai - Coleen and Wayne Rooney's son has stepped up 10 places to number 56, despite his father's indiscretions.

The list was compiled by parenting club Bounty from names given to 423,000 children born in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland during 2010.

Yesterday, Faye Mingo, spokeswoman for bounty.com (http://www.bounty.com/) said: ''Our records show that parents are continuing to be influenced by popular culture and celebrity trends.

"The remarkable rise in popularity of names such as Ollie and Florence are most probably due to the X Factor star Olly Murs and the singer from Florence and the Machine experiencing their time in the limelight.

"However, parents are looking to a wide range of sources for influence and also seem to be rediscovering more traditional, 'old-fashioned' names like Ava and Stanley which have been more associated with grandparents in the past.

"Biblical names are also proving popular with Noah rising 20 places to 15th place and Jacob up 7, just missing the top ten."

Olivia is enjoying its third year in top spot after deposing Grace in 2008.

Jessica climbed one place to sixth, while Chloe dropped from fifth to seventh. Ava made it into the top ten for the first time while Grace slipped to ninth from sixth.

Amelia completed the top ten. Lucy was a non-mover at 13 while the next four places were all taken up by new names, including Isabella which climbed eight places to 14th.

Megan, Isla and Freya have all become more popular as has Lilly, most probably inspired by the singer Lily Allen.

On the boys list Jack finally surrendered top spot to Oliver but very little of the rest of the top ten changed. William climbed one spot to eighth as did Daniel to ninth while James slipped two to tenth.

Other names we will be hearing more regularly includes Logan, which climbed seven places to 17th and Oscar, which moved up four to 22nd.

Callum and Liam seem to have had their day - they were the biggest fallers in the top 30, seven and nine places respectively.

And new entries into the bounty.com top 100 lists were Esme, Courtney, Jude, Elliot and Stanley.

Faye Mingo added: "A recent study we ran found that one in five parents regret the names they have chosen for their children, so it's more important than ever for parents to choose a name them and their child will love for the rest of their life.

"It's hard to predict what we'll see next year but it's most probable that celebrities and popular culture will again play a part - and with a royal wedding on the horizon we may well see an increase in Williams and Kates born in celebration!"

See the Top 100 boys and girls names of 2010 and check the latest regional popularity (http://www.bounty.com/baby-names/regional-names) ratings at Bounty's baby names (http://www.bounty.com/baby-names) section which features a host of unique and handy functions to help parents decide on baby names. Johnny Depp Top Money-Making Star of 2010

30 Dec 2010 16:00 Africa/Lagos

Johnny Depp Top Money-Making Star of 2010

PR Newswire

GROTON, Mass., Dec. 30, 2010

GROTON, Mass., Dec. 30, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Johnny Depp has been voted the Top Money-Making Star of 2010 in Quigley Publishing Company's 79th Annual Poll of Motion Picture Exhibitors. This is Depp's sixth appearance in the Poll, including two other first place finishes in 2007 and 2006. Exhibitors felt Depp was responsible for more traffic to theatres than any other Hollywood star based on his performances this year in "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Tourist."

The Quigley Poll, conducted each year since 1932, is an annual survey of motion picture theatre owners and film buyers, which asks them to vote for the ten stars that they believe generated the most box-office revenue for their theatres during the year. It has been long regarded as one of the most reliable indicators of a Star's real box-office draw because the selections are made by professionals whose livelihood depends on choosing the films and actors that will bring audiences to their theatres. The Quigley Poll appears annually in Quigley Publishing Company's International Motion Picture Almanac and on our web site: www.quigleypublishing.com

Angelina Jolie placed second this year based on "Salt" and "The Tourist." Robert Downey, Jr. made it to #3 for his third consecutive year in the survey, with 2010 roles in "Iron Man 2" and "Due Date." Matt Damon, placing #4, had a productive year with "Green Zone," "Hereafter" and "True Grit." Steve Carell made the Top Ten at #5 for his first time on the strength of "Dinner for Schmucks," "Date Night" and "Despicable Me." (voice)

Tom Hanks is #6, which marks his sixteenth time in the Poll since he first appeared in 1988, including five times as #1. Interestingly, Exhibitors selected Hanks, whose only film distributed in 2010 was "Toy Story 3" as the voice of "Woody." Theatre Owners may be recognizing the importance of animation in 2010 with five animated films among the ten highest grossing films this year. Denzel Washington was in "The Book of Eli" and "Unstoppable" and placed #7, his seventh mention in the Poll. Leonardo DiCaprio made his sixth appearance coming in at #8, due to "Inception" and "Shutter Island." George Clooney in "The American" scored #9 and 2008's "Star of Tomorrow," Anne Hathaway, made the Poll at #10 for the first time. She was in "Valentine's Day," "Alice in Wonderland" and "Love and Other Drugs."

Tom Cruise has not placed in the Poll in the last three years but he has been in the Top Ten 20 times since 1983, and been voted number one the most - seven times. Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds and Bing Crosby have all won five times. Eastwood has been in the poll 21 times starting in 1968. John Wayne, Doris Day and Shirley Temple each finished first four times, but John Wayne was voted one of the Top Ten Money-Making Stars an astounding 25 times from 1949 to 1974.

Exhibitors were also asked to name the Stars of Tomorrow for 2010: one actor and one actress who they feel will be Top Money-Makers in the years to come. The 2010 winners are Zach Galifianakis who was in "Dinner for Schmucks," "Due Date" and "It's Kind of a Funny Story" and Michelle Williams who had a breakthrough performance in "Blue Valentine" and was in "Shutter Island."

Top Ten Money-Making Stars of 2010:

1. Johnny Depp
2. Angelina Jolie
3. Robert Downey, Jr.
4. Matt Damon
5. Steve Carell
6. Tom Hanks
7. Denzel Washington
8. Leonardo DiCaprio
9. George Clooney
10. Anne Hathaway

Stars of Tomorrow:

* Zach Galifianakis
* Michelle Williams

LG Text Ed Video Featuring Actress Jane Lynch Aims To Curb Texting While Driving

LG Mobile Phones revs up parents with final LG Text Ed video, promoting safe mobile phone use behind the wheel

SAN DIEGO, December 23, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — With recent studies citing that mobile distractions such as texting can be even more dangerous than drinking and driving, parents are looking for answers on how to best educate and promote responsible mobile phone use to their teens. As part of her role in the LG Text Ed campaign, an educational program aimed at parents, Jane Lynch shot a series of entertaining and educational viral videos for LG Mobile Phones about mobile phone misuse. With the goal of educating parents about the importance of talking to their kids about responsible mobile phone use, the LG Text Ed video series addresses issues such as “sexting,” mobile harassment and text etiquette, while helping parents learn how to use mobile phones to communicate better with their kids. In the series finale, Jane drives right to the point and addressees the potentially damaging consequences of texting while driving.

In an eye-opening study conducted by LG Mobile Phonesi, 70 percent of teens accuse their parents of texting while driving, while only 44 percent of parents actually admitted to the behavior. In a similar study conducted by the Pew Research Center, presented during the Federal Communication Commission’s recent Generation Mobile Forum, 40 percent of teens said they’ve been in a car when the driver used a cell phone in a way that put themselves or others in danger. In the texting while driving video, Lynch confronts a classroom of parents about their own texting and driving bad habits and urges parents to model good behavior for their children. Using humor to get to the heart of the issue, Lynch helps parents help themselves by putting the phone away in the car and encouraging their kids to do the same.

“With 45 percent of teens admitting to texting and driving, it’s more important than ever that we provide parents with the tools to educate and promote safe and responsible driving habits,” said Tim O’Brien, vice president of consumer and trade marketing. “Through LGTextEd.com, parents have a centralized resource they can use to help keep their children safe when it comes to mobile phone use.”

Through the LG Text Ed Web site, www.lgtexted.com, parents can educate themselves about the dangers of texting while driving as well as learn strategies to use to help protect their children. Parents can also view the full Jane Lynch series including the newest Texting While Driving video on the Web site. LG also encourages parents to visit the LG Text Ed Facebook page, www.facebook.com/LGTextEd, where users can talk to one another, post questions and check up on Lynch’s latest classroom lessons.

LG Text Ed with Jane Lynch
Bringing her trademark intensity and flair to the LG Text Ed campaign, award-winning actress Jane Lynch is working with LG Mobile Phones to raise awareness about risky mobile phone behavior. In a series of comedic vignettes, which can be viewed on www.LGTextEd.com, Lynch tackles issues such as sexting, texting while driving, mobile bullying, and other questionable teen behaviors. At the end of each video, Lynch directs parents to LGTextEd.com where they can find professional advice and guidance to help promote safe and responsible mobile usage among their text- and tech-savvy families. Lynch, a new mom herself, masterfully employs her artistic abilities and the result is a video series that is both humorous and thought-provoking.

LG Text Ed
The LG Text Ed program, which was launched in early 2010, offers parents a number of articles, tips, videos and other content so they can educate themselves on the dangers of mobile phone misuse, employ strategies to help protect their children from potential problems, and discover how they might be modeling their children’s mobile phone behavior. Parents can find additional information on the LG Text Ed initiative and mobile phone misuse by visiting www.lgtexted.com.

Rael, Founder and Spiritual Leader of the Raelian Movement: 'For His Stance on Condoms, Pope Benedict XVI Should be Prosecuted for Crimes Against Humanity.'

PR Newswire

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 26, 2010

LAS VEGAS, Dec. 26, 2010 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Rael, founder and spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement, said in a statement issued this morning that Pope Benedict XVI should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity "for his strong stance against the use of condoms".

A spokesperson for the Raelian Movement said that while recent publications "hint that the pope has finally come to favor condom use," the Vatican has just clarified Benedict's recent comments, emphasizing that he didn't mean condoms should be used to avoid pregnancy.

"In a statement released by the Vatican, the Congregation of the Doctrine of the Faith said the pope wasn't talking about using condoms during sex between married couples or as a form of contraception," the Raelian spokesperson explained. "Instead, according to the statement, he said they could be used in cases such as reducing the risk of HIV infection for male prostitutes.

In his own statement, Rael poked fun at the pope's position.

"Of course, condoms shouldn't be used to prevent pregnancy because we need billions of additional babies to reach overpopulation as soon as possible," he said. "Then we can watch billions starve to death because there isn't enough food on Earth for all of them!"

Rael said the Vatican's statement demonstrated a lack of compassion.

''For such a message, the pope should be prosecuted for crimes against humanity, which will happen one day!" Rael said, adding that millions of people die from AIDS "because they are good Catholics who listen to this irresponsible 'religious leader.' "

In London on Sept. 13, European Raelian Movement filed a lawsuit against Pope Benedict XVI (formerly Cardinal Ratzinger) in the High Court, Queen's Bench Division. Allegations in the suit include charges of violating international human rights laws and perpetrating genocide by continuing to claim that condoms don't stop the spread of AIDS. The file is still being processed by the High Court.

We Are What We Do

What matters most is not what we say, but what we do every day by day to each other.
You cannot even count how many times we have failed to keep our word, when you say one thing today, but you do the opposite tomorrow and end up with the bitterness and sadness of your lies and broken promises in shame and sorrow.

I have said before and may I repeat it, that the less cheats and beasts we have in our midst the better, healthier and safer we would be.
So, do not accept any cheat or beast, the wolves in sheep clothing in the ranch of life.
Get rid of them before they do worse things to you and I.
The sooner you remove the bad apple from the lot, the better before he or she spreads the rot.

Would you remain the same shameless cheating and lying creature or turn a new leaf in the coming year?

Dedicated app needed for instant messaging
3.2MP camera
No free maps and navigation
BlackBerry 8mm thicker than Nokia E72
No ability to separate/tailor home screens

Advantages of Nokia messaging devices over BlackBerry

It is important that everyone in Nokia is aware of advantages of Nokia messaging devices so that we as ambassadors of the messaging range can engage in discussions about the difference between the BlackBerry and Nokia offering. Here’s where we think we are stronger:

• While BlackBerry wants you to be a BlackBerry person with their own communications tools, Nokia lets you to be you and work the way you like by using your choice of messaging solutions - Nokia offers a wide variety of ways to communicate including email & instant messaging and to update social networks. Wide range of devices in a variety of styles. Nokia’s portfolio carries over 100 email-enabled models. The BlackBerry range of devices only includes six QWERTY devices in the UK, and one touch device. For smaller budgets BlackBerry offers nothing.

• Affordable and predictable pricing - With Nokia Messaging, all consumer email and IM is included into the operator data plan There are no hidden costs, taxes, license fees like there are for BlackBerry. Research has shown that companies can save an average of £215 per year per employee by using a Nokia Eseries handset with Mail for Exchange or IBM Lotus Notes Traveler instead of BlackBerry. (Source Nokia Internal Research).

• Easy Email and IM set-up - Nokia messaging devices have an easy 3 step email set up, directly from the home screen of the device. No downloading the application, installing it and configuring the account like on BlackBerry. With Nokia you can directly access 90% of the world’s corporate email and IM through partnerships with Microsoft Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes.

As an example, the Nokia E72 wins over the BlackBerry Bold 9700 in some important areas: It has easier email setup with more email and IM service options, it’s less expensive, has a better camera, comes with OVI Maps with free walk and drive navigation and premium travel guide content, has faster web browsing speed, features a thinner design and stainless steel build, and allows for two tailored home screens.

Do you care for the poor girls and women in your relationships?

Do you care for the poor girls and women in your relationships?

I mean you know you are fortunate to come from a privileged family or have privileges the poor girls and women do not have and they cannot compete with you in the acquisition of the status symbols of your class conscious society.
Like you are a girl or lady from privileged background living your high life in the mega city of Lagos in Nigeria who can afford to go to the Silvierbird cinemas or Genesis Deluxe cinemas and later dine and wine at the fancy restaurants in on Victoria Island where you also meet and hook up with the big boys who frequent these places that only the comfortable people can afford, do you wonder how you would fare if you were not so opportune or privileged?

Would the big boys still treat you with comfort and respect if you were a poor babe from the ghettos of Isale Eko, Ajegunle or Makoko?

Like when you fancy a guy who is dating a poor girl or lady, do you respect her or look down on her and use your privileges to lure and snatch the guy from the poor girl or lady?

Have you imagined how she copes and fares living in a tenement where she shares the toilet with over 20 others who are co-tenants with her family?

Yes, all fingers are not equal and no condition is permanent, but have you ever practiced equity in your friendship and relationship with your fellow girls and ladies from different social backgrounds or you lead a dog eat dog life?
Are you an oppressor of the poor girls and ladies among you?

I have seen female students on the same campus in Lagos, but who actually feel superior to their fellow campus babes, because of the social class discrimination or because they have better opportunities than them.
I mean both of them are at UNILAG, but while one is from a privileged family in Ikoyi the other one is from a poor family in the back streets of Yaba. The privileged girl looks down on the poor one and simply says, “We are not in the same class.” But you are in the same university and all things being equal if the poor girl concentrates on her studies she will excel and graduate in flying colours and get her dream job that comes with all the perks and from the ghetto of Yaba she relocates to Lekki and then she catches up with the Joneses. Now would you still look down on her?

There are many different examples of these cases in every community of every society and the point is, we should relate with others in the loving kindness of TRUE LOVE by caring and sharing whatever we claim to have and not using our privileges or advantages to oppress others in our midst no matter their family backgrounds.
Lest we forget, none of us had the choice to be born poor or born rich. Therefore we should not use our contrasting backgrounds negatively but positively in our friendships and relationships.

Forget the lip service and eye service of the hypocrites who flatter you, exploiting the advantages of their privileges.

Beware of fair weather friends and lovers?
Mind how you relate and treat others today, because when tomorrow comes the times may bring you down at their feet.

I wish you happy holidays of true love.

If I Were President: My Haitian Experience, the New Six Song EP From Wyclef Jean, Available on the iTunes Store

Video for First Single, "Election Time," Filmed in Haiti

NEW YORK, Dec. 7, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Columbia Records will release If I Were President: My Haitian Experience , the new six song EP from Wyclef Jean, available on the iTunes store today.

(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20101207/NY12873 )

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20101102/NY93577LOGO )

If I Were President: My Haitian Experience , includes "Election Time," a provocative new universal song written in the wake of Wyclef's recent attempt to run for president in Haiti. The track is currently streaming here: http://soundcloud.com/they-win-u-lose/wyclef-jean-election-time

"This song is inspired by Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick In The Wall,' with the chant, 'We don't need no education,'" says Wyclef Jean. "It is also inspired by Fela Kuti's 'Zombie.' It's the voice of the youth. It is the voice of this generation. It's the artist once again doing what the politicians should be doing. This is about inspiring the voice of this generation."

"Election Time" arrives with an extraordinarily powerful and beautiful video lensed in Haiti. Wyclef teams up with Haitian director, Steve Halloun to co-direct the clip. Halloun, a former student of the University of Miami Film School, like Wyclef, is deeply concerned with helping Haiti on all fronts. The video created jobs for local residents, including the actors and technical staff, while showing the world unfamiliar pictures of his native country.

"I have to show all the sides of Haiti," Wyclef Jean says. "There is still beauty in Haiti and I have to show the beauty and the ugly reality that is going to change. It will change."

November was "Election Time" in many countries around the world including in both of Wyclef's countries--the United States and Haiti, where the November 28th general election holds great historic import. "It means the rebirth of my country. It means that the young people can bring about change," said Wyclef prior to the Haitian general election. "I would want to tell the youth of Haiti to go out and vote. We have had a long history of dictatorship in Haiti. It's not a Haitian right to vote that we are talking about. We are talking about a world right. Take your right. Your true weapon is your voting card. Use your weapon and use it wisely."

If I Were President: My Haitian Experience is a family affair, co- executive produced by Wyclef and his brother, Sedeck Jean. The two started together and then went separate ways in their careers until the Earthquake of January 2010 reunited them musically. Sedeck Jean is also featured in the "Election Time" video.

Wyclef describes If I Were President: My Haitian Experience as "The life story of an immigrant. It's for everyone who has had to leave one place and adapt to another. It's about the refugee in all of us trying to fit in. But it's not all sorrowful. In life, there is love and hate, war and peace. It's both sides. This is the continuation of my music and it represents both sides. It's for all my fans. It's for those who love me for 'Gone 'Til November' and 'Hips Don't Lie,' too.

"Every great album to me is inspired by real events. It's about what you've seen and experienced. They were done by the greats who came before me: Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Fela Kuti. The music has to be real. Fela Kuti used his music as a tool for development of his people. You need to relate to the culture. If I Were President: My Haitian Experience is about relating to the culture of Haiti which translate to the world."

Wyclef Jean plans a world tour in 2011. "The Haitian Experience " tour will include, "The music, the art, the culture and definitely the carnival," says Jean.

Haitian-born Wyclef Jean is a Grammy Award-winning songwriter/musician/producer, humanitarian, Goodwill Ambassador to Haiti, and founder of Yele Haiti. A founding member of the pioneering hip-hop group Fugees and prolific solo artist, Wyclef has effortlessly crossed genres, generations and geographic boundaries with his music.

In 2005, Wyclef Jean created Yele Haiti to provide aid and assistance to his native Haiti. Yele Haiti is a grassroots movement inspiring change in Haiti through programs in education, sports, the arts and environment. Their community service programs include food distribution and mobilizing emergency relief. Wyclef coined Yele in a song and means "a cry for freedom." The organization has been garnering international attention for its work including being featured in the Associated Press, USA Today, CNN, Fox News, NBC's Today show, and on 60 Minutes. After the devastating earthquake in January 2010, all programs now focus on the relief and reconstruction of the island nation.

Before You Sleep With Him or Her

As we mark World AIDS Day, please note that even though the infections of AIDS are reported to be on the decline, there are still over three million cases of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria and we can reduce the figure if we increase our efforts to control and prevent the further spread of the pandemic in Nigeria.

Safer methods of sex are still the best ways to save you from contracting HIV.
Paying lip service to the slogans and going behind to indulge in wanton sexual intercourse with those who are promiscuous is fooling yourself.

Majority of our youths are hypocrites of the HIV/AIDS Control and Prevention campaigns, because they have failed to control themselves in their relationships. They have unprotected sex all the time.

Most of the young male students in Nigeria have indiscriminate sex with even trollops on and off campus and sleep with love-peddlers and also sleep with their regular girlfriends who in most cases cheat on their boyfriends and continue the spread of HIV/AIDS and increasing the grave consequences of the pandemic in Nigeria and abroad as they travel to and fro.

Be honest and save yourself from HIV/AIDS before it is too late.
